Hidden Lake Peaks touring - March 2005

With Jerry reporting good snow conditions the week prior, Andy, Eric, Jerry and I set out on a futile search for some good two-week old powder on Hidden Lake Peak's East Slopes. Instead of powder, we enjoyed a nice breakable crust and flat light on what was to be the money descent of the tour (pictured above). We did, however locate a short powder slope upon descent from the lookout. Speaking of the lookout - we would encounter local ski 'celebrities' Phil, Ski, Jason and Josh taking a nap in the lookout. I think they went on to ski something in the Triad area the following day.

We toured towards a saddle and descended to Hidden Lake en route to the 6,900' sub-summit (the one with lookout on top).    Gaining the ridge below the lookout.    Jerry nears the lookout.    Mutchler Peak (left) and Snowking Mountain (right).    Andy performs air guitar as the clouds continue to part.    Andy descends a steep powder slope below the sub-summit while Eric and Jerry look on.

Looking over Hidden Lake with Mount Torment, Forbidden Peak, Boston Peak and Sahale Peak (left to right).    Spider Mountain and Mount Formidable (left to right).    One final look back before returning to Sibley Pass. Sub-summit at left.
