The Spearhead - Blackcomb Glacier, January 2019
I've been just a stone's throw away from The Spearhead's actual summit en route to ski descents of Decker Mountain or Corona Bowl and Husume Coulior on Blackcomb Mountain so many times I've lost count. Having climbed neighboring Blackcomb Peak via its Northwest Ridge earlier in the summer, reminded me of the fact that I've never actually set foot on top of The Spearhead. While not a particularly notable objective to warrant a separate trip, I promised myself that the next time I found myself touring out past the ski area boundary I'd make the short detour to tag the summit proper.
And so, it came to pass the following winter that we once again found ourselves skinning up below Blackcomb's East Col en route to the high shoulder of The Spearhead. Waiting around for Agata to catch up as usual, I ditched the splitboard and kicked up through boot-top deep snow to the summit. Enjoyed great views in all directions and soaked in the weak sunshine on a glorious January afternoon of "slackcountry" touring!
