Windy Peak - South Slopes, February 2002
This was my first and only BOEALPS outing. Being a new member, I figured I'd expand my list of potential climbing partners and join the crew on one of their 'winter outings'. Well, neither the membership nor the aforementioned outing amounted to much in the way of partnerships for the kind of things I had in mind, but at least I tried! The 'climb' itself was really a wallow-fest up some non-descript bump west of Stevens Pass.
Looking east from the summit, however with Cowboy Mountain (top of Stevens Pass ski area) in the distance reminded me of a fun backcountry run that I've done a couple times. Starting from the summit of Cowboy Mountain and ending at the HWY2 hairpin turn, I recall this being a really enjoyable descent, away from the tracked-out slopes of the ski area. Hitch a ride back up to the ski area and repeat until the lifts close!
