Morning Star Peak - East Face (attempt), December 2004

Paul and I paired up for what would ultimately amount to nothing more than an annoying 'hike' up towards the headwaters of the Stillaguamish River. A thin covering of unconsolidated powder snow made for tedious travel over talus and brush and drained us of energy and motivation for climbing Morning Star Peak.

Morning Star stands with Vesper and Sperry Peaks as one of the prominent peaks of the Headlee Pass area. It is situated between Headlee Pass and Del Campo Peak; SE of Sperry Peak and west of Lewis Peak. Having subsequently climbed both Del Campo and Sperry, I never quite felt the need to bother going back for Morning Star. That being said, the Mountain Loop area is a peakbaggers dream-come-true. Numerous attractive and rugged peaks a relative short drive from Seattle. Not quite the grandeur of North Cascades but with good accessibility and proximity to town, there's a lot going for it!
