Banks Lake rock, September 2010

Made a couple trips out to the Banks Lake/Grand Coulee Dam area to soak-in some end-of-summer rays and explore the scenery and nearby rock climbing. If the setting alone, not to mention the limitless climbing potential here isn’t enough to invigorate your soul, then might I suggest a visit to your psychiatrist? Granted, the drive out here is a fair bit longer than your tried-and-true Leavenworth weekend getaway. But if are looking to escape the autumnal Seattle rains for the weekend and have tired of the same old same old, you could do worse than spend some time climbing granite in this unlikely desert oasis.

Panorama overlooking Steamboat Rock State Park as a dust storm begins to blow through. Luke does his best Statue of Christ The Redeemer impression on the top of Steamboat Rock. View north from Steamboat Rock
Taking in the western view from Steamboat Rock. First lead up Renaldo. Not your typical belay stance - Highway Rock. Climbing a Banks Lake classic - Bono.
Cliping a bolt on The Edge. Agata top-ropes Name Unknown. Down time at Banks Lake basecamp. Over to Northrup Canyon and finding surprisingly steep climbing on Earnest Stemmingway.
Fun climbing on The Pit and the Pendulum. Climbing out of the gap on I'm Down. Agata at the top anchors of I'm Down. Short but fun climbing on Toltec Tower. Agata makes short work of Maya.
An amazing sunset looking west near George WA.
